Strategic Communications recently exhibited at the 2016 ACQUIRE conference and expo held in Washington D.C. The purpose of ACQUIRE is to bring together Federal IT contracting and procurement specialists in order to educate them on recent contracting trends in the Federal space. ACQUIRE brings together a number of Federal agencies across the board; from The Department of Defense, to The Department of the Interior, and even to smaller “child agencies”.
I was working the Strategic Communications booth. I had the opportunity to talk with contracting specialists and end-users on how Strategic can assist with our Federal contracts as well as our in house expertise in solutions such as Cloud Services, Audio Video design, programming and install, VoIP phone design and install, Cyber Security and Intrusion Detection solutions. Through my conversations with the attendees, I discovered that each of our core competencies are in demand. I also discovered that the attendees who were in the contracting and procurement positions share similar pain points when it comes to the acquisition process of those solutions and services.
ACQUIRE 2016 featured a number of great key note speakers to address both the technological and the acquisition pain points of the attendees. Speakers from NASA, General Services Administration (GSA), National Institutes of Health, Department of The Navy, FBI and the Small Business Administration (SBA) gave very informative presentations on how Government Wide Acquisition Contracts (GWACs) and Small Business Set Asides could be used to streamline IT procurement within the Federal Government. They also gave great insight on the technological solutions that the Federal Government wanted to implement to become more efficient and more secure, thus looking at commercial grade technologies to be integrated into their existing IT environment.
Exhibiting at ACQUIRE allowed me to hear firsthand what pain points and pitfalls the Federal Government was experiencing on the IT front. In my mind, many of the Federal agencies I spoke with share similar goals as commercial businesses. Improving internal and external communication and collaboration, more efficient access to data and applications and more robust cyber security measures to protect the same data and applications are key to commercial businesses and government agencies to succeed in their respective missions. With the in-house expertise, past performance, vendor relationships and customer service, Strategic Communications is positioned to assist any commercial business and government agency in their overall IT strategy.
