Upcoming Holidays, & Events
4/1 April Fool’s Day – It received its name from the custom of playing practical jokes on friends and family. Be alert as there may be “fake news.” In 1996, Taco Bell, duped people when it announced it had agreed to purchase Philadelphia’s Liberty Bell and intended to rename it the Taco Liberty Bell. In 1998, after Burger King advertised a “Left-Handed Whopper,” scores of clueless customers requested the fake sandwich. Google notoriously hosts an annual April Fools’ Day prank that has included everything from “telepathic search” to the ability to play Pac Man on Google Maps.
4/8 Total Solar Eclipse – Essentially cosmic confluences, occurring when the sun, the moon and Earth align. The moon passes in front of the sun, temporarily blocking its light. The moon can fully obscure the sun, as is the case with total solar eclipses, or it can block only a part of the sun’s light, as happens with partial solar eclipse. On this day, millions of sky-watchers are offered a rare opportunity to see afternoon skies temporarily darken and an illuminated halo appear overhead. If you are at the corporate office, Chris Payne generously offered to bring in his telescope (with Sun filter, weather permitting). The total solar eclipse will visit Kentucky on April 8, 2024 and will begin at 2:58 pm and the final exit of the Moon’s shadow from the state will be at 3:01 pm. The partial eclipse will last from 1:42 until 4:20 p.m. and totality will start around 3 p.m. and last up to 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
4/22 Earth Day – The theme is Planet vs. Plastics. Earthday.org is demanding a 60% reduction of all plastics by 2040. Ways to reduce plastic; Use a refillable water bottle. Switching to a Brita® or similar system can replace up to 1,800 single-use plastic bottles per year. Take a cloth bag when you go shopping. Replace plastic Tupperware for glass or steel containers. Do your part and reduce the amount of plastic in your life.
4/24 Administrative Professionals’ Day – Got an Admin who supports your daily duties and you couldn’t live without? Be sure to acknowledge their efforts, hard work and dedication on this day.
